The energy that bounced around in her delicate veins was thrown into the tediousness of hard labor. When the nest was built, distractions ceased and gave birth to a peace that was not peaceful. When she laid her head to rest, it's foundation scratched and poked her, preventing sleep. She molded burdensome materials to create a structure of her own, but she was constantly reminded of their organic forms. It was a well-built nest, but it would forever wane and warp.

I laid the ticket in the exact middle of the crosswalk. The road was wet, shiny, and slick. I looked at it's gorgeously lacquered tar and recognized my adoration for sex and dirt. My body felt overwhelmingly stoic. I was watching something die; I was allowing death. I feared that the people in their cars were mad at me. They wanted green; I wanted white. The air traveled softly with the scent of kerosene and old towels.
